Wings for Life to Compensate Grant Holders for Sharing Data
We are happy to announce that ODC-SCI has been recommended by Wings for Life Spinal Cord Injury Foundation as the data repository for sharing all research data of Wings for Life funded projects.
We want to thank Wings for Life for their continuous support and encouragement in this global movement towards data sharing and open science. At the same time, we invite other Foundations looking to develop their data sharing policies to reach out to us. As a community-run repository, ODC-SCI strives to ensure the success of data sharing for the whole community. We greatly value your support and feedback. From Wings for Life Foundation to funding recipients:
Wings for Life Spinal Cord Injury Foundation would like to highlight the importance of good data management practices and establish the expectation for sharing of all scientific data generated from Wings for Life-funded research (independent of associated publications in traditional journals):
Research data of Wings for Life funded projects shall be made openly accessible to the research community and/or the broader public as soon as possible.
Researchers shall inform Wings for Life when and where data have been released.
To support effective data discovery and reuse, Wings for Life recommends the use of any established data repository that is managing data according to the FAIR data principles (1, 2, 3) and that are discipline specific (e.g., the odc-sci.org, a free and trusted data repository generated by the SCI research community).
Wings for Life will compensate the researcher for their efforts of registering at the ODC-SCI platform and for uploading up to two complete data sets.
Registering will be compensated by a free Wings for Life World Run voucher, worth 20 €. Join us in our biggest fundraising experience on May 8, 2022.
Uploading of data sets resulting in a DOI will be compensated by 100 € each for up to two data sets. If you choose the ODC-SCI, a comprehensive section of Tutorials and FAQs can be found on odc-sci.org, and the ODC-SCI team is happy to assist you in the process.
About
Spinal cord injury (SCI) produces a complex syndrome characterized by loss of motor control and mobility; loss of bladder, bowel and sexual function; pathological pain; and loss of autonomy. The multifaceted nature of SCI presents a challenge for the translational pipeline. This problem of SCI complexity can be conceptualized as a big-data issue: the field needs a forum for large-scale data-sharing and application of advanced analytics to catalyze SCI discoveries. Various funders and publishers have recognized this need as well currently implementing data sharing mandates.
To address this challenge the SCI research community is assembling a large database through collaborative and FAIR data sharing. We are a digital infrastructure with the goal to democratize SCI data, allowing researchers to access existing SCI data, contribute their own, and publish with citable DOI. Learn more
